CTIA Wireless Spring

We attended the CTIA Wireless show in Orlando, Florida, Mar 21-24. The show hosted 40,000 attendees from 125 countries. AT&T/T-Mobile merger announcement just prior to the show created a new March madness, filling the airwaves with opinions about regulatory hurdles and the eventual winners and losers.
Tablets, running some flavor of Android, were plentiful, with iPad2 as the new benchmark. Fourth generation LTE network deployments are going strong. Spectrum, touted as “oxygen” for wireless industry continues to be the scarce commodity. US wireless data traffic has grown 110% from Dec 2009 to Dec 2010. US data revenues, at $50B in 2010, account for over one third of total service revenues. Ericsson expects 1B mobile broadband connections in 2011 quintupling to 5B by 2016. We attended the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona Feb 14-17. There was an upbeat mood to the conference since last year.
Tablets, NFC chips, carriers uniting against being dumb pipes were the key themes of the conference.
Open Mobile Summit

We attended the Open Mobile Summit andAppcelerate events in San Francisco, Nov. 8-10. The show has doubled in attendance since last year to 650 attendees this year.
Mobile Leader Conversations

We are starting a series of conversations with mobile industry leaders. The idea is to capture diverse perspectives of mobile movers and shakers, and create an opportunity to exchange ideas and information on the latest developments.
The first in the series of Mobile Leader Conversations covers Mobile Health Conversations. We conducted four interviews at CTIA show in October where Azita was chairing the mHealth Device Review panel.

About fifty thousand attendees participated in this year’s conference
Mobile World Congress held its annual show in Barcelona Feb 15-18th. There were first-time keynoters from virtual royalty — Google's CEO Eric Schmidt and from real royalty — Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan. Schmidt talked about principle of "Mobile First" in all of Google's recent application and service developments. Queen Rajna promoted FIFA's "1Goal" initiative (which she co-chairs) to ensure that every child worldwide has the opportunity to go to school and learn.

Consumer Electronics Show

Happy New Year! We attended the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, along with over 140,000 technology enthusiasts. Mobile and wireless gadgets and technologies, which is our focus, have an increasingly larger showing at CES.
Verizon, calling its 4G LTE network a "High IQ network", took center stage announcing a number of LTE smartphones, tablets and other accessory devices.
eBook readers of CES 2010 gave way to their multi-function cousins at CES 2011, making the show a tablet bazaar.
CTIA Enterprise & Applications

We attended the CTIA Enterprise and Applications show in San Francisco, Oct 5-8th. This smaller of the two CTIA annual shows focused primarily on enterprise mobility, and attracted 14,000 industry execs.
Businesses are embracing mobility as more employees bring their smartphones and tablets to use at work. IT staff is faced with several challenges trying to balance allowing mobile device choices for the users with ensuring security, manageability, reliability, and support of the diverse device platforms.

CTIA Wireless show was exciting with lots of work around mobile broadband and regulatory environment.
We led the mHealth panel diving deep into what is real.
We were also pleased to serve as a CTIA E-Tech judge.
